iPhone As A Social Sparkplug
Further
to the posts by me and others here about Digg as an iPhone application,
there’s an important general principle at work here that everyone
should be aware of: the iPhone can be the most powerful instrument yet
devised for online participation - in activities ranging from selection
of news stories (as in Digg), to responding to online polls, to
everything we do online.
Cell phones of course allow us to do many of these things. But the key advantage of the iPhone is that it combines cell phone and web functions.
So, for example, if you see a story on Digg that you think merits more attention, you can not only Digg it via your iPhone, but call friends and let them know about the story. Just being on the web allows you to send e-mail to friends. But the iPhone brings phone calls into this process, too.
Social activities function best when supported by the maximum number of media, which allow people to communicate by whatever means most suits them. In bringing the web and cell phone together, the iPhone may be one of the most powerful socializing, participatory instruments ever invented.
Hey, here’s a suggestion - you can test my theory by clicking on some of the little Digg buttons you see below every article here on iPhonematters…
